His professional journey spans more than 30 years, during which he has made substantial contributions to several high-profile companies and cultural organizations.
Early Education and Academic Achievements
Alan began his higher education at the University of Oxford, where he pursued a Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, and Management. He distinguished himself with First Honors and topped his class in the Year-3 Finals. Before attending Oxford, he completed his earlier education at St Joseph's College.
Career Path and Milestones
Alan's career kicked off in the finance sector as an Investment Banking Analyst at Citibank in London. However, his ambitions soon led him to McKinsey & Company, where he spent nearly two decades as a Senior Partner. It was here that he built critical divisions, including McKinsey Digital, and consulted with leading Internet companies in China.
After his long tenure at McKinsey, Alan transitioned to Tencent, one of the world's largest technology conglomerates. He launched and led Tencent's Internet Insurance platform, WeSure, first as Chairman & CEO and later as Executive Chairman. His leadership at WeSure marked another high point in his career, solidifying his reputation in the FinTech domain.
In 2022, Alan took on the role of Chief Business Officer at Animoca Brands in Hong Kong. Here, he manages a portfolio of over 300 companies and oversees mergers and acquisitions as well as business development.
Contributions to Art and Culture
Beyond his corporate roles, Alan is deeply involved in the art and cultural sectors. He is Vice Chairman of the M+ museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District, where he has also served as a board member. Additionally, he chairs Para Site, an important art space in Hong Kong. His influence extends globally through advisory roles at the Tate, where he co-chairs the Asia Pacific Acquisition Committee, and the Guggenheim Museum, where he is co-chair of the Asia Art Circle. Recently, he joined the board of Tapestry, providing counsel on strategic directions focused on Asia/China and digital strategies.
