He then transitioned to The Washington Post Company, holding several key positions including President, Chief Operating Officer, and CFO. His roles at The Washington Post Company gave him significant experience in corporate development and strategy, eventually leading him to become President of Newsweek.

 

Alan's career further progressed as he took on various critical roles in high-profile organizations. At Polaris Partners, he served as Managing General Partner, General Partner, and later, Partner Emeritus. His advisory roles included guiding startups and growth-stage companies in sectors such as technology, healthcare, and digital media.

 

Board Memberships

 

In terms of board memberships, Alan has accumulated a tremendous amount of experience. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Fortive Corporation and holds board memberships at IAC, The Match Group, and Danaher Corporation. He has also contributed significantly to the Smithsonian Institution as Regent Emeritus and has been actively involved with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in various capacities, including co-founding the MIT Sandbox entrepreneurship program.
