His journey in the professional world is marked by significant contributions in a variety of industries such as retail, media, financial services, and travel/hospitality. He has crafted and led compelling marketing strategies, blending traditional media channels like television and radio with digital platforms to drive business growth.
Educational Background
Bart's educational background is firmly rooted in his pursuit of marketing excellence. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Vassar College, graduating in 1986. He then advanced to Columbia University and Columbia Business School, where he completed his MBA in Marketing by 1988. This solid educational foundation provided the springboard for his illustrious career.
Early Career
Bart's career began at Time Inc., where he contributed to the launch of Time-Life Home Video. He then moved to Chemical Bank, serving as Vice President and working on various financial products related to acquisition, retention, pricing, and product development from 1988 to 1994. After his time at Chemical Bank, Bart explored entrepreneurial ventures. He led Maverick Foods, a start-up food company, and founded an internet start-up offering e-commerce solutions called Commerce Enablement Services.
McKinsey & Company
In 1998, Bart joined McKinsey & Company, where he became a Principal and delivered impactful solutions across over 100 consulting assignments within the Marketing and Retail Practices. His work at McKinsey laid the groundwork for his transition to Chief Marketing Officer roles at major Fortune 500 companies. From 2011 to 2019, Bart was the CMO of Burlington Stores, Inc., where he led the company's Marketing, E-commerce, and Strategy teams.
Advisory Roles and Entrepreneurship
Following Burlington, Bart's career included several advisory positions. He served as a Senior Advisor at Impact Analytics, using artificial intelligence to enhance analytical performance across various sectors. He also provided strategic guidance as an Advisory Board Member for Forman Mills and as a Strategic Advisor and Acting CMO at BANYAN. In addition, he became the president of bps Captura, offering advisory and consulting services to corporate senior leaders, private equity firms, and boards in consumer-facing industries.
Bed Bath & Beyond
Most recently, Bart served as the Chief Marketing & Customer Officer at Bed Bath & Beyond, contributing to the company's growth and strategy. He also holds board positions, including serving on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of kidpik, a public company offering children's clothing subscription boxes.
Commitment to Education
Beyond his executive roles, Bart is committed to education and knowledge sharing. Since December 2019, he has been an Adjunct Instructor at New York University, where he teaches graduate-level courses in Marketing and Leadership.
