Early Career at Citi

 

Betty's career started at Citi, where she spent nearly two decades in roles that spanned across North Latin America and the Asia Pacific region. This period laid the foundation for her deep knowledge of payments, banking, and financial services. She served as the Head of Division for North Latin America from 1993 to 2004, and later as the Country Business Manager and SEVP for Citibank Consumer in Asia Pacific from 2004 to 2007. These roles underscored her ability to manage diverse and complex markets.

 

Leadership at Citibank Canada

 

In 2007, Betty took on the role of Chairman and CEO of Citibank Canada Inc. Here, she had full profit and loss responsibility and successfully revamped sub-scale businesses through strategic consolidation. Her leadership at Citibank was instrumental in optimizing the bank's operations and strategizing its market approach.

 

Career at Mastercard

 

Her tenure at Mastercard began in 2010 when she became President of Mastercard Canada Inc. She was a key member of the Operating Committee and was responsible for regional strategy, business development, regulatory affairs, and driving innovation. Betty later served as the Chief Commercial Officer for Digital Payments and Labs at Mastercard, from 2015 to 2019, where she commercialized Labs assets and scaled API solutions globally.

 

Board and Advisory Roles

 

Post-Mastercard, Betty expanded her influence through board and advisory roles. As a Member of the Board and Chief Business Officer at FinConecta since 2019, she played a pivotal role in integrating financial institutions with fintechs globally. She also served on the boards of major companies such as Home Capital Group Inc. and Molson Coors Beverage Company, where she contributed significantly to audit committees and corporate governance.

 

Current Roles

 

Currently, Betty is a Member of the Board of Directors at Popular and the NYSE-listed NACD New York Chapter. She advises VoPay on fintech services and payment integration capabilities and serves as a Founding Principal at BetDev Solutions, providing fintech advisory services focused on business development, market expansion, digital transformation, and fundraising.
