Byron's educational background is robust. He first earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Finance from Drexel University's LeBow College of Business. He then went on to complete his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Finance and Innovation from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Additionally, he received another MBA in Finance/Marketing from The Wharton School.
Career Journey
His career began at Systems & Software Technology (SST) where he served as CEO and President, working on Fortune Systems, Qantel Mini Computers, and Raytheon Systems as a Value Added Reseller. He later moved into roles such as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Thrivent Asset Management, where he managed broker-dealer systems and supported the Executive Committee. Byron also held senior positions at Wells Fargo Asset Management (formerly Strong Capital Management) and Merrill Lynch, where he oversaw significant technological advancements and eCommerce strategies.
At Merrill Lynch, Byron played a critical role as CIO Global Private Client, overseeing a technology organization valued at $1.4 billion and supporting 7,000 employees. Later, he served as CIO & Head of Operations at Dun & Bradstreet, where he led the Global Technology organization and managed significant product strategies and introductions. His roles at Dun & Bradstreet also included being President of D&B International and D&B North America, and President of Risk & Marketing Solutions.
Byron's leadership continued at Fiserv, a major player in financial services technology. He held several prominent positions there, such as Chief Administrative Officer, Group President, and Sr Group President - Payments and Digital Solutions. He managed a substantial portion of the company's product offerings, including core account processing and various digital solutions, which supported 40% of US banks and credit unions.
In January 2021, Byron took on the role of Chief Growth Officer at Fiserv before moving to his current position as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Apollo Global Management in New York City in September 2022. Apollo Global Management is one of the largest alternative investment managers globally, indicating the high level of trust and responsibility placed in Byron.
