Craig Packer is a seasoned finance executive with a remarkable career in the investment industry. His educational background is substantial, including an MBA from Harvard Business School, which he earned between January 1990 and January 1992. Before that, he completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia, attending from January 1984 to January 1988.
Professional Journey
Craig's career path showcases significant leadership roles and contributions to notable financial institutions. He began his professional journey at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he worked in High Yield Capital Markets from July 1992 to November 2000. After nearly a decade, he transitioned to Credit Suisse First Boston, stepping up as the Global Head of High Yield Capital Markets from November 2000 to July 2006.
Goldman Sachs and Owl Rock
Following this, Craig moved to Goldman Sachs, one of the world's most prestigious banking firms. He served as a Partner there for ten years, from January 2006 to January 2016, before co-founding Owl Rock Capital Partners. At Owl Rock, he held the role of Co-Chief Investment Officer (Co-CIO), working in the Greater New York City area and setting a solid foundation for the firm's future development. His tenure at Owl Rock spanned from January 2016 until it evolved into Blue Owl Capital.
Blue Owl Capital
In May 2021, Craig took on his current role at Blue Owl Capital Inc. as Co-President and Head of Credit. His responsibilities include leading the firm's credit platform and acting as a Co-Chief Investment Officer for Blue Owl Credit Advisers. He also serves as the Chief Executive Officer for each of Blue Owl's Business Development Companies (BDCs).
Charitable and Educational Involvement
In addition to his significant corporate achievements, Craig is actively involved in numerous charitable and educational organizations. He holds the position of Treasurer of the Board of Trustees at Greenwich Academy and serves as Co-Chair of the Honorary Board at Kids in Crisis, a nonprofit aiding children in Connecticut. He is also an Advisory Board member for the Mount Sinai Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance and a Trustee on the Foundation Board of Trustees for the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. Furthermore, Craig is a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Virginia Athletics Foundation.
