Educational Foundation
Raised in Atlanta with a diverse cultural background, he pursued higher education at Columbia University in New York City. There, he earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Columbia College. His studies at Columbia spanned from January 1988 to January 1992, laying a solid groundwork for his future endeavors.
Early Professional Journey
Holmes began his professional journey as an Analyst at Chase in 1992. He later moved to The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Ltd., New York Branch, where he worked as an Associate until 1997. From there, he joined JPMorgan Chase & Co. as a Vice President, a role he held until 2001. These early positions provided him with invaluable experience in the financial sector.
Goldman Sachs Tenure
In 2001, Holmes joined Goldman Sachs, a prominent global investment bank, where he would spend the next 19 years in various leadership capacities. He initially served as the Head of Insurance Risk Management and Advisory, eventually rising to Group Head of Financial Institutions in the Risk Management and Advisory sector. Later, he became the Head of Financing Group for the Insurance Industry. His roles at Goldman Sachs culminated with his positions as Global Head of Investor Relations, Global Head of Pine Street, and Global Head of Human Capital Management, where he also earned the titles of Executive Vice President and Partner.
Co-founding Eskalera Inc.
After his long tenure at Goldman Sachs, Holmes co-founded Eskalera Inc. in February 2020, a technology company aimed at improving employee engagement and productivity by fostering inclusive workplace environments. As CEO and Chair, he led Eskalera until December 2023, when he transitioned to a new role.
Joining KKR & Co. Inc.
Holmes joined KKR & Co. Inc., a leading global investment firm, as a Director on the Board in March 2021. By December 2023, he took on the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at KKR, further solidifying his influence in the investment community.
Commitment to Education and Storytelling
In addition to his corporate career, Holmes is deeply committed to education and storytelling. He serves as the Board Chair for both the Ron Brown Scholars and StoryCorps. Fluency in German and a passion for blues music also highlight his diverse interests.
Personal Life
Even his personal life showcases a blend of dedication and variety. Born in Chicago and raised in Atlanta, with an Irish Catholic mother and an African-American Baptist father, Holmes values the richness of his heritage. He moved to San Francisco from Montclair, New Jersey, during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding joy in moments shared with family and friends.
