Educational Background
Grant Kvalheim is an accomplished executive with a wealth of experience in the financial services industry. His strong educational background laid the foundation for his successful career. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Claremont McKenna College, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Finance from the University of Chicago.
Professional Journey
Grant began his professional journey at J.P. Morgan, where he served as Vice President from 1979 to 1986 in New York, NY. He then moved to Merrill Lynch, taking the role of Managing Director and Co-Head of Debt Origination from 1986 to 1995. At Merrill Lynch, he was instrumental in increasing the market share for the Global Banking & Markets division, setting the stage for his future leadership roles.
Following his tenure at Merrill Lynch, Grant joined Deutsche Bank as Head of Global Debt – Capital Markets, working in both New York, NY, and London, England. He served in this capacity from 1995 to 2001, where he played a key role in driving the credit business to global market leadership.
He then shifted to Barclays Investment Bank, where he held multiple prominent positions from 2001 to 2007. Grant served as Global Head of Credit Products and Investment Banking, providing crucial advisory, financing, and risk management guidance to large companies, institutions, and government clients. He also took on the role of Co-President, during which he built the UK investment grade credit business into a global market-leading credit operation.
Role at Athene
In 2011, Grant's journey with Athene began. Initially, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer, a position he held until 2013. He also served as President of Athene Holding Ltd. from 2011 to 2015. During his tenure as Executive Vice President from 2015 to 2022, he oversaw U.S. operations, focusing on the retail annuity channel, growth initiatives, and new product development. Since April 2022, he has been leading Athene as President and CEO of Athene USA, driving business growth in various segments, including retail annuities, pension risk transfer, flow reinsurance, and funding agreements.
Collaboration with Apollo Global Management
Grant also holds a significant role with Apollo Global Management as a Partner, furthering his influence and expertise in the financial industry.
