Early Life and Education

Henry Kravis, a prominent figure in the world of finance, has had a remarkable career defined by his foundational role in establishing KKR, a global investment firm. Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kravis completed his bachelor's degree at Claremont McKenna College in 1967. Demonstrating an early interest in business, he furthered his education by earning an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1969.

 

Founding KKR

Kravis’s career took a significant turn in 1976 when he co-founded KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P.) alongside his cousin, George R. Roberts, and Jerome Kohlberg. KKR quickly emerged as a pioneer in the leveraged buyout industry. The firm's innovative approach to finance and investment reshaped how companies were bought and managed, and KKR became a heavyweight in the field of alternative asset management.

 

Role and Leadership at KKR

Kravis played a pivotal role in the operations and strategic direction of KKR. Up until 2021, he served as the Co-Chief Executive Officer of the firm, a position where he exercised significant influence over numerous high-stakes investments and acquisitions. Currently, he holds the title of Co-Executive Chairman, and he remains actively involved in the firm's activities, being a member of each of KKR’s regional Private Equity Investment Committees.

 

Other Board Memberships and Philanthropy

In addition to his role at KKR, Kravis has served on the boards of several other influential organizations. He is currently a board member for companies like Axel Springer, ICONIQ Capital, LLC, and Catalio Capital Management, LP. His past board memberships and leadership roles include positions with:
