Javier D. Ferrer, based in Puerto Rico, has made significant strides in the legal and financial services industry over a career spanning more than 30 years. His educational background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. Javier earned his Bachelor's Degree from Harvard University in 1983. He then pursued a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Boston College Law School, graduating in 1986. Professional Journey

Professionally, Javier's journey began in September 1992 when he became one of the founding partners of Pietrantoni Mendez & Alvarez LLP, a role he held until August 2013. His expertise in law soon opened doors to leadership positions in prominent financial institutions. In early 2013, Javier served as the President and Vice Chairman of the Board at the Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico. During the same period, he took on the role of Chairman of the Board at the Economic Development Bank for Puerto Rico.

Role at Popular

Javier joined Popular in January 2014 as Chief Legal Officer. Here, he was responsible for overseeing the legal affairs of the company until January 2022. His legal acumen was a valuable asset, leading to his continued rise within the company. In 2019, he took on additional responsibilities in Corporate Strategic Planning, demonstrating his ability to contribute to broader company strategies.

Current Role

In January 2022, Javier was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Popular, Inc. His current role includes overseeing various business groups, corporate strategic planning, and the transformation office. He is also a member of the Senior Management Team and a Director of Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Popular Bank. Beyond his professional life, Javier is an avid marathon runner, having completed five world major marathons and the Big Sur marathon, showcasing his dedication and perseverance.
