He then took on a role as a Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Pension and Welfare Benefits at the U.S. Department of Labor, followed by a position as an Attorney Advisor in the Office of the Counsel to the President at the White House.
Transition to the Private Sector
He transitioned into the private sector with Ernst & Young (EY), where he ascended through various roles, including Director of Legislative and Regulatory Policy and Senior Manager of Personal Financial Counseling. His significant achievement during this period includes serving as the Executive Director of the National Summit on Retirement Savings, organized by the White House while he was at EY.
Roles at Grant Thornton and The Hartford
Following his time at EY, Jay held the position of Executive Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs at Grant Thornton LLP, then advanced to The Hartford, where he served in roles including Vice President of Federal Affairs & Assistant General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Government Affairs & Associate General Counsel.
Time at Guardian Life and Venable LLP
His career continued to flourish at Guardian Life, where he acted as Senior VP of Government Affairs and later as Chief Human Resources Officer. Briefly, he worked as Counsel at Venable LLP before joining Assurant.
Current Role at Assurant
At Assurant, Jay's career has shown a clear upward trajectory. Starting as the Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, he swiftly moved to the Co-Interim Chief Legal Officer position, and now serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. In this role, he oversees the global legal department and manages critical areas such as compliance, government relations, and regulatory affairs for Assurant, a Fortune 500 company.
