Early Career and Rise at GE
 

John Rice is a seasoned professional with a distinguished career largely centered around General Electric (GE). After graduating from Hamilton College, where he later served as a Life Trustee, John embarked on an impressive journey with GE, starting as a participant in the Financial Management Program in 1978.

Throughout his tenure at GE, John climbed the corporate ladder through a variety of important roles. Early in his career, he managed different assignments within GE’s Appliance business and became vice president of the Corporate Audit Staff by 1993. His leadership capabilities soon led him to international assignments, such as President of GE Plastics in the Asia-Pacific region, based in Singapore from 1995 to 1997.

 
Leadership Roles and Major Contributions
 

In 1997, John took on the role of President & CEO of GE Transportation Systems. A few years later, he was appointed President & CEO of GE Energy, a position he held from 2000 to 2005. His responsibilities continued to grow as he became the Vice Chair of GE Industry and Infrastructure from 2005 to 2007, and then Vice Chair, President & CEO of GE Technology Infrastructure, managing divisions like GE Aviation, GE Healthcare, and GE Transportation until 2010.

John’s most significant role at GE came in November 2010, when he was appointed Vice Chair, President & CEO of GE Global Growth Organization, based in Hong Kong. In this pivotal role, he led GE's growth initiatives across 173 countries, fostering a balance between global strategies and local operations. He remained in this position until his retirement in March 2018.

 
Post-Retirement Involvements
 

Even in retirement, John has stayed deeply involved in the business world. He holds several significant positions, such as:

  • Director at Baker Hughes since 2017
  • Director at AIG since 2021
Additionally, he acts as an advisor for SSA, Kerogen Capital, and CelerateX. His commitment to education and community service is evident through his roles as:
  • Trustee at Emory University
  • Chair of the Emory Healthcare Board
He also serves on the finance committee for the CDC Foundation in Atlanta and the International Advisory Board for the Cambodian Children’s Fund.
