He commenced his professional journey at Lazard in 1988 as a Vice President. By 1991, he was made a Partner at Lazard, serving in this capacity until 2002. During this period, from 1999 to 2002, he also co-headed the Investment Banking and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) division, playing a crucial role in managing and advising on significant transactions.

Jacobs' leadership capabilities were further recognized when he was appointed Deputy Chairman and CEO of Lazard North America in January 2002. He held this position until December 2008, during which he made substantial contributions to the firm’s growth and client trust.

In January 2009, Jacobs ascended to the role of Chairman and CEO of Lazard.
