Educational Background
Mark began his academic journey at Howard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in finance, graduating with honors. He didn't stop there; he went on to pursue an MBA from the prestigious Harvard Business School, further solidifying his academic foundation with top-tier education.
Early Career
Starting his career in the early 2000s, Mark has gathered experience across various notable institutions. Before joining Citi, he worked at Lucent Technologies as the Director of Strategy and Business Development. He also had a stint as a Strategy Consultant with Marakon Associates and gained valuable investment banking experience at Goldman Sachs & Co.
Career at Citi
Mark’s journey with Citi began in 2001, and since then, he has held several senior roles that have enabled him to develop a deep understanding of the financial sector.
- He first served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Head of Strategy and M&A for Citi’s Global Wealth Management Division from September 2006 to December 2011.
- He then moved on to become the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and later the CEO of Citi Holdings, a position he held until May 2013.
- Following this, Mark was appointed as the CEO of Citi Private Bank, a role he served in until September 2014.
Current Role
His path within Citi continued as he took on the role of CFO of Citi’s Institutional Clients Group, where he was responsible for Citi’s Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) submission process. This experience set the stage for his current role as the Chief Financial Officer of Citi, a position he has held since February 2019. In this role, Mark is responsible for the overall financial management of the company. He also spearheads Citi’s Expense Management and Citi Ventures initiatives and is a key member of the company’s Executive Management Team.
Community Service
In addition to his professional achievements, Mark is also dedicated to education and community service. He serves as a Trustee of Howard University, his alma mater, highlighting his commitment to giving back to the community. He previously served as a Director of Primerica, Inc.
Personal Life
On the personal front, Mark resides in New Jersey with his wife and two children. With a career marked by significant roles and achievements, Mark Mason remains a pivotal figure in the financial services industry.
