General Motors Corporation: Early Career
LaNeve's career began with General Motors Corporation, where he held various key positions. As Director of Marketing for the Cadillac Division from 1993 to 1995, he made significant strides in shaping the brand's market presence. He then moved on to serve as Brand Manager at General Motors from 1995 to 1997, further honing his marketing expertise.
Volvo Cars North America
A move to Volvo Cars North America followed, where LaNeve rose to the position of Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing the successful "Volvo for Life" campaign. From 1999 to 2001, he served as President and CEO of Volvo Cars North America, demonstrating his ability to lead on a grand scale.
Return to General Motors Corporation
In 2001, LaNeve returned to General Motors as General Manager of Cadillac Motor Car Company. During his tenure, he redefined the full-size luxury SUV market by reintroducing the Escalade as a hip urban luxury vehicle, which led to a quadrupling of sales and attracted a significantly younger and more affluent customer base.
Allstate Insurance Corporation
LaNeve's success at General Motors set the stage for his transition to the insurance industry. He joined Allstate Insurance Corporation as Chief Marketing Officer in 2009, where he led marketing strategy, advertising, promotions, research and development, and social network marketing. One of his most memorable achievements was the development of the "Mayhem" ad campaign, which resonated widely with consumers. By 2010, he had advanced to Senior Executive Vice President, retaining his CMO responsibilities while gaining broader business unit accountability.
Ford Motor Company
LaNeve continued his impressive career at Ford Motor Company, serving as Vice President of U.S. Marketing, Sales, and Service from 2015 to 2021. He played a crucial role in shaping the company's marketing and sales strategies during this period. Before this, he had been the Chief Operating Officer for Global Team Ford at the WPP Group, managing operations from 2012 to 2015.
Recent Roles and Board Memberships
In recent years, LaNeve has focused on leveraging his extensive experience as a board member and executive leader. Since March 2021, he has served on the board of KFA Automotive "KeyFetch" and Audacy, Inc., and he became Chairman of Franchise Equity Partners in July 2021.
