Education and Early Career
Maryann Bruce has an extensive and distinguished career in financial services and corporate governance. Her educational foundation began at Jericho High School, and she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Duke University, completing her studies there between January 1978 and January 1982.
Career Trajectory
Maryann's career trajectory began as Vice President & Mutual Fund Marketing Manager at JC Bradford & Company in Nashville, where she worked from September 1982 to June 1987. She then moved to OppenheimerFunds in New York, holding the position of Senior Vice President & Director, Financial Institution Division from January 1987 to January 1998. This role helped establish OppenheimerFunds in the bank marketplace.
Following her tenure at OppenheimerFunds, Maryann served as President & CEO of Allstate Financial Distributors, Inc. from September 1998 to September 1999. During this time, she set the strategic direction and managed the sales infrastructure, supporting various brands. From September 1999 to June 2007, she was President of Evergreen Investments Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Wachovia Corp., where she managed key business lines and led several successful product launches affecting a business generating $317 million annually.
Impressive Resume and Board Memberships
Her impressive resume also includes roles such as President of Aquila Distributors, Inc. at Aquila Investment Management LLC from January 2008 to August 2010, and serving on numerous corporate boards. Notably, she has been a member of the Board of Trustees for companies like Allianz Global Investors and PNC Funds & PNC Advantage Funds. Her international experience was further enriched during her time at MBIA, where she served from June 2012 to August 2017.
Current Roles
Currently, Maryann holds the position of Independent Director and Risk Chair for Amalgamated Bank, and she has served on the Board of Directors of NextPoint Financial. Her roles often involve chairing key committees such as Governance, Nominating, and Compensation, steering organizations through critical strategic decisions and restructurings.
