Mitch Berg has had an impressive career in the technology industry, marked by significant achievements in both education and professional development. His educational journey began with a dual degree in Industrial Engineering and Computer Science from the University at Buffalo, completed in 1984. He furthered his knowledge with a Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1985. A few years later, he obtained a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where he focused his dissertation on risk assessment related to environmental hazards.
Academic Roles
Mitch’s career in technology leadership commenced with academic roles, first as an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University in the Department of Industrial Engineering from 1991 to 1995, and later at the University of Washington – Bothell, where he specialized in distributed computing and taught programming and database design.
Industry Transition and Entrepreneurial Ventures
Transitioning from academia to industry, Mitch founded GeoSystems LLC in 1995, providing client-server database software solutions. In 2001, he founded Reba Technologies, focusing on data center optimization products, and authored ten patents supporting this venture.
Professional Progression
His professional path continued to rise with significant roles in various companies. As Principal Software Engineer at Hynomics Corporation, he led a team in developing core business software. At Boeing, from 2004 to 2008, Mitch worked on advanced distributed software projects. He then became the Chief Information Officer at BenefitPlan Manager Corp, where he managed software development for web-based benefits administration systems until 2011.
AdTech Industry Contributions
Mitch's experience in the AdTech industry began to solidify at SEMplest LLC, where he built a team that developed an automated search engine marketing system, leading to a successful acquisition. His knack for building and scaling technology teams was further exemplified as VP of Engineering at Kikin, Inc., where he led efforts in mobile search and natural language processing.
Leadership Roles
His roles continued to escalate in responsibility and scope. At IgnitionOne and later Dailymotion, Mitch managed global development activities and led technology advancements in ad server and auction exchange for online advertising. He followed these roles by serving as Chief Technology Officer at Vroom, where he was pivotal in preparing for the company's IPO by revamping their online car buying technology.
Recent and Current Roles
In 2020, Mitch joined Koddi as CTO, overseeing the development of a new adtech platform for the travel industry and expanding the technology team significantly. His most recent role before joining Kubient was at Koddi, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership in building advanced advertising technology.
Currently, as the Chief Technology Officer at Kubient, Mitch has been pivotal in developing their programmatic AdTech marketplace and real-time exchange systems. Not only has he successfully rearchitected their core platform, but he has also ensured the highest standards of information security while mentoring his technology team.
