Her educational journey began at the University of Queensland, where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. In addition, she is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York, California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, and she further honed her accounting skills at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia. Serena completed her high school education at Redcliffe State High School.
Career Path
Serena's career path illustrates her dedication to the field of finance. She started her professional journey at Ernst & Young LLP (EY) in Brisbane, Australia, in 1998. During her time at EY, she progressed through various roles, accumulating significant experience and knowledge. From Brisbane, she moved to San Francisco, California, where she continued to rise through the ranks from Manager to Senior Manager. Her career then took her to New York, where she served as a Partner from June 2011 to June 2017, and later as the Central Region Real Estate Hospitality & Construction leader from June 2017 to December 2019.
Role at Annaly Capital Management
In December 2019, Serena took on a new challenge as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Annaly Capital Management, a leading capital manager with investment strategies in mortgage finance. Her role involves overseeing the financial operations of the firm, which focuses on generating income for distribution to stockholders.
Board Memberships
Beyond her role at Annaly, Serena is also actively involved in various boards. She has been a board member at Berkshire Grey and Doma (formerly known as States Title) since July 2021. Additionally, she has served on the board of Nontraditional Employment for Women since January 2011.
