Shelley Leibowitz is a highly respected figure in the technology and financial services sectors, with a career that spans numerous executive and advisory roles. Leibowitz’s educational background is rooted in mathematics, having studied at Williams College, where she gained a solid foundation that would propel her into a successful career in information technology and management.
Early Career
Her career began in earnest at RBS Greenwich Capital, where she served as Chief Information Officer from 1991 to 1998. This role marked the start of a series of prominent positions in the financial industry. She went on to become the Technology Advisor and Board Member at GAIN Capital from 1998 to 2000, and later the Chief Information Officer at Morgan Stanley from 2000 to 2004. Each of these roles allowed her to hone her skills in IT management, risk management, and business strategy.
Mid-Career and World Bank
In 2007, Leibowitz took on the role of Chief Information Officer at Duff Capital Advisors/Investment Risk Management, where she worked until 2009. She then took a significant step by joining the World Bank as its Group Chief Information Officer, a position she held until 2012. This role at the World Bank underscored her capabilities in managing IT portfolios and guiding technological transformations on a global scale.
Advisory and Directorial Roles
After her tenure at the World Bank, Leibowitz shifted her focus towards advisory and directorial roles. She founded SL Advisory in 2016, offering strategic advice to senior executives and boards on technology matters. She has also been actively involved with various boards, including those of E*TRADE Financial Corporation, MassMutual, and Supply Wisdom, bringing her expertise to these organizations.
Current Roles
Currently, Shelley Leibowitz serves as a director for several high-profile companies, including Morgan Stanley, Elastic NV, and BitSight. She continues to provide vital insights and strategic direction in the rapidly evolving fields of financial technology and information security.
Other Involvements
Outside the corporate world, Leibowitz is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the New York Board of the National Association of Corporate Directors. She is also involved with BuildOn, a non-profit organization, contributing to community service and educational initiatives.
