Education and Early Career
Suzi Watford has established herself as a prominent figure in the media industry, thanks to her extensive experience and numerous accomplishments. She graduated from the University of Surrey with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion in 1999. This educational background set the stage for her diverse and successful career in media and marketing.
Early Roles
Her career began at News UK, where she joined as a Graduate Trainee and Marketing Manager for The Times of London. Over five years, she honed her skills in marketing and brand management. From 2005 to 2007, she worked as the Head of Partnership Marketing at The Telegraph in London, where she collaborated with national and global brands to boost newsstand sales.
Leadership at News UK
Suzi then moved back to News International (now News UK), where she held several leadership roles. As Partnership and Loyalty Director from 2007 to 2011, she developed the Times+ loyalty program, creating new revenue streams and partnerships across the company's titles. From 2011 to 2014, she served as the Sales and Marketing Director for The Times and The Sunday Times, restructuring teams and strategies and negotiating sponsorships that led to record sales, particularly during the 2012 Olympics.
Role at The Wall Street Journal
In 2014, Suzi joined The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) as Chief Marketing and Membership Officer, where she played a significant role in transitioning the publication from print to digital. Her efforts were pivotal in driving consumer marketing and subscription strategies globally. In 2018, she was promoted to Executive Vice President, CMO, and Chief Membership Officer at Dow Jones, operating as a divisional CEO and overseeing all aspects of the WSJ business, including revenue, product strategy, and consumer roadmap.
Achievements at Dow Jones
One of her notable achievements at Dow Jones was leading the company to its highest revenue since fiscal 2011 in Q2 of fiscal 2022. She also more than doubled digital subscriptions for the WSJ to 3.5 million and launched the WSJ's flagship podcast, "The Journal," in collaboration with Gimlet/Spotify.
Current Roles
In early 2023, Suzi became the Chief Growth Officer at SiriusXM, based in New York. She continued to deliver exceptional results in growth and customer revenue. By May 2024, she took on the role of Chief Strategy Officer at The Washington Post in Washington, DC, where she continues to leverage her vast experience in transforming media businesses and driving consumer-centric strategies.
Recognition and Mentorship
Suzi's career is a testament to her strategic thinking, innovative approaches, and ability to lead global teams to success. Her contributions to the media industry are widely recognized, making her a respected and influential leader. She also actively serves as a board member of the International News Media Association (INMA) and mentors future leaders as a Fellow of The Marketing Academy.
