Tony Spring has built a remarkable career in the retail industry, characterized by his education, achievements, and progressive career path. His journey began with a solid foundation from Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Administration/Management from 1983 to 1987. This education equipped him with the essential skills for his future endeavors.

 
Early Career at Bloomingdale's
 

Tony's professional career took off in 1987 when he joined Bloomingdale's as an executive trainee in White Plains, New York. Over nearly three decades, he steadily moved up the ranks within the company. His early roles included:

  • Department Manager for Housewares and Food
  • Buyer for Cookware and Cutlery
  • Various other significant positions in home furnishings, marketing, and stores
By 2008, he had ascended to the role of President and Chief Operating Officer, and in 2014, he became the Chairman and CEO of Bloomingdale's. Under his leadership, Bloomingdale’s flourished as a distinguished retail brand.

 
Leadership at Macy's
 

In 2021, Tony transitioned to Macy's, taking on the role of Executive Vice President. His leadership was soon recognized, and in March 2023, he became the President and CEO-Elect. By February 2024, he officially assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of Macy's Inc. In his current role, Tony oversees a vast network of over 90,000 employees and 722 retail locations worldwide, driving Macy’s purpose of creating a brighter future through bold representation and maximizing the potential of Macy’s, Bloomingdale's, and Bluemercury brands.

 
Activities Outside of Retail
 

In addition to his roles at Bloomingdale's and Macy's, Tony Spring has engaged in various notable activities outside of his primary career. He has served as:

  • The Chairman of the NRF Foundation since January 2022
  • An Advisory Board Member at the Hospital for Special Surgery since January 2018
  • A dedicated Board Member at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) since January 2002
